Zone into Grenth’s Footprint from the Deldrimor War Camp. You should notice a Dwarven Prospector right in front of you, who gives you quests. That’s not all he does though – he’ll heal you whenever your health gets low, as long as you’re in range! You can exploit that to solo-farm the first few mobs in this area. Pull a group of Stone Summit close to the Prospector, and kill them with your healer support. You’ll get full XP and all the drops! Best of all, you can do this with a character of any profession, and without a specialized build. Take your favorite character and bring a bit of self defense, and go solo farm some dwarves.
14 commentsRun Through the Coral on Jade Isle
There are two routes to the flag stand on Jade Isle, a long way over some bridges and a shorter way through a teleporter. The short way makes you run through spiked coral and take a lot of damage. If you run through the coral you get to the stand much faster. You can even run past the stand, and catch the other team on their own bridge if they went the long way. They’ll have to run flags through your team putting you at a huge advantage.
2 commentsAir of Enchantment Smiter
The new Factions skill Air of Enchantment can be used to supercharge a smiter. This is the popular template.
Air of Enchantment, Reversal of Fortune, Guardian, Protective Spirit, Smite Hex, Zealot’s Fire, Balthazar’s Aura, Resurrect
Smiting 16, Protection 12, Divine Favor 7
Pick a warrior and put Air of Enchantment on him. Then spam Reversal of Fortune and Guardian on him for free. Each cast will trigger Zealot’s Fire and deal 37 damage to all enemies near that warrior. You can recast Air of Enchantment on the warrior again for free.
In PvP this is a great template for dealing lots of AoE damage fast. In PvE you need to slow down your smiting a bit to avoid causing AoE fear and making mobs break aggro.
1 commentAssasin Builds PvP,GvG & PvE
All of these builds require shrouded 70 armors and the stats are pretty simple to figure out.
Build 1:
A/Mo
Golden Phoenix
Horns of the Ox
Falling Spider
Twisting Fangs
Moebius Strike
Mending
Death’s Charge / Sprint / Shadow Refuge (PvE)
Res Signet
[Golden Phoenix>Horns of the Ox>Falling Spider>Twisting Fangs>Moebius Strike. Repeat from Horns of the Ox>]
“RA or TA Build. High damage output.. I love this build ^^”
Build 2:
A/Mo
Golden Phoenix
Horns of the Ox
Falling Spider
Twisting Fangs
Contemplation of Purity
Aura of Displacement
Shadow Refuge
Res Signet/Dark Escape
[Golden Phoenix>Horns of the Ox>Falling Spider>Twisting Fangs. Contemplation of Purity and removes all your enchantments (Aura of Displacement & Shadow Refuge) and removes 1 hex and 1 condition, Aura of Displacement is a nifty skill in GvG sice you can shadow step to target foe and cancel it to return to the spot you cast it from. Shadow Refuge acts as a heal which is also an enchantment]
“GvG Build which is quite good. Stable but not really a good damage output”
Build 3:
A/Me
Golden Phoenix
Horns of the Ox
Falling Spider
Twisting Fangs
Arcane Echo
Shadow Form
Dark Escape//Res Sig
Shadow Refuge//Death Charge
[Golden Phoenix>Horns of the Ox>Falling Spider>Twisting Fangs. Arcane Echo copies the next cast spell for 20 seconds which allows you to cast Shadow Form for example. This skill will then Copy the skill which gives 2 Shadow forms in the skill bar. Shadow Form should last for aprox 17 seconds and you have to be quite fast on activating the second Shadow Form which you copied with Arcane Echo becose it only lasts for 20 seconds in the skill bar.]
“This build relies heavily on a short burst tactic of 40 seconds of near invincibility
to 20 seconds of near death, perfect for ganking or running flags past an entire team being unharmed.
The build can fight in a team but requires a lot of coordination with monks dealing with when
shadow form ends and the energy required to keep the assassin up after it ends.”
Build 4: Hex + Cripple chain
A/Mo
Mark of instability
Black Mantis Thrust
Jungle Strike
Twisting Fangs
Falling Spider
Horns of the Ox (or other dual attack)
Moebius Strike
Res Signet or Optional
[Mark of instability,Black Mantis Thrust,Jungle Strike,Twisting Fangs,Falling Spider,Horns of the Ox (or other dual attack),Moebius Strike. The problem with this build is that it requires 6-7 slots in the skill bar. The damage is totally devastating tho and target foe is crippled, knocked down, bleed, deep wound and poison. Great and killing monks
]
“Mark of instability acts as a hex which triggers Black Mantis Strike to cripple your opponent.
Then if foe is crippled Jungle strike does nearly double damage, Twisting fangs applies bleed and
Deep wound which lowers the foes hp by 20% and the foe is knocked down due to Mark of Instability.
Falling spider then hits while the foe is knocked down and does damage and applies poison and then
You can choose a dual attack of your own choise which makes moebius strike usable which recharges
all the attack skills (not Mark of Instability though). Repeat it and Enjoy!

Desert Griffon Farming
This is one of the few types of farming that hasn’t been nerfed to hell, so pay attention.
There are two great spots for hunting griffons. To get to the first one you need to leave out the west entrance of Augury Rock, and from there head south. There will be some devourers and minotaurs that pop up on your way there, so just sprint past them. In the southeast corner of the map are several packs of griffons. They’re boring melee mobs so they can be killed by warrior tanks, trappers, invincimonks, earth eles, take your pick. But the good part is that they drop lots of max and near max rares. You should be getting at least one rare weapon every two runs.
The other spot to farm griffons is due east of Destiny’s Gorge. Hug the north wall as you head east, you should find them quickly. There aren’t as many griffons here and they don’t drop as well, but they’re easier to get to.
Pick one and rake in the loot before it gets taken away.
2 commentsGriffon Farmer – Warrior/Monk
Here’s a Warrior build for farming desert griffons.
Class: Warrior/Monk
Skills: Gladiator’s Defense, Bonetti’s Defense, Cyclone Axe, Endure Pain, Healing Breeze, Vigorous Spirit, Live Vicariously, Mending
Attributes (after runes): 12 Tactics, 9 Axe Mastery, 7 Strength, 11 Healing
Items: Vampiric Axe of Enchanting, Gladiator’s Armor, Ascalon Helm, Shield
Runes: Superior (Major) Vigor, Superior (Major) Absorption, Minor Strength, Minor Tactics, Minor Axe Mastery
Cast Mending, let your energy regenerate, then cast Live Vicariously. Then run to the griffons. Round a bunch of them up, cast Vigorous Spirit, then use Cyclone Axe into Bonetti’s Defense. That should refill your health and energy. Use Cyclone Axe into Bonetti’s Defense whenever you need to refill your health or energy. Use Gladiator’s Defense to deal a lot of damage while protected, and to re-cast your enchantments.
6 commentsChapter 1 Chest Farming
The chance of a chest giving gold items depends on how often it’s being opened serverwide. Popular farming areas give lots of purples, but out of the way chests will give rares often.
Right now is a great time to farm chests in chapter 1. Everyone is playing the expansion areas, making chapter 1 chests drop rares much more often. The quality of rare drops is much higher now, too, so you can make a ton of money running chests in Witman’s Folly or Hell’s Precipice. Jump on this while you can, the market will correct itself pretty soon.
2 commentsKill Shiro Easily
Shiro is pretty easy for an experienced team. He has 3 critical skills, and the key to beating all of them is dealing lots of damage.
Remember to get your dragon special skill. Those make the fight a lot easier. Each dragon special can be used once, but is recharged by a morale boost.
At the beginning of the fight, and periodically throughout it he’ll use Echoing Banishment on a player.
Echoing Banishment: Shout. Target foe is banished to the mists and his spirit bound to Shiro. If the Spirit Binder is destroyed, the spirit is freed.
When you see this used turn around and kill the spirit binder to get your teammate back. Killing a spirit binder gives you a morale boost. Use your dragon special right before you kill one to get more uses of it.
If you’re banished you’re sent to the mists. You can run past all the spirits to the top of the mountain to free yourself. You shouldn’t try this without self heals or you’ll die on the way out. Monks can get out easily and should run out because the monk spirit binder can be hard to kill.
Once he’s taken some damage he uses Meditation of the Reaper.
Meditation of the Reaper: Skill. For 30 seconds Shiro meditates and absorbs the next 700 damage. When this skill ends, Shiro steals 20 Health from all foes for each second this skill was active.
When Meditation starts everyone needs to turn around and attack Shiro with everything they have. If he stays in Meditation very long he’s going to get healed to full and your team will take massive damage. A good team will break Meditation in under 5 seconds.
Once he gets down to a third health Shiro will use Impossible Odds. This is the attack that kills most teams.
Impossible Odds: Skill. For the next 10 seconds, Shiro’s attacks double strike and hit each nearby foe.
Also, Shiro becomes immune to conditions when Impossible Odds is used. Conditions are transferred onto one of your allies instead. Unprepared teams die within seconds of this being activated. The best strategy is to bring a ranger with you. When Impossible Odds is used, counter with Celestial Stance to make most of his attacks miss. You need to kill Shiro very quickly once he gets to this stage. Assassins and elementalists are great to have along, their specials deal massive damage.
When Shiro is dead you’ll be transported to a special area. You’ll get your choice of a special green item for beating the game. Crafters for +5 energy weapons and 15k armor are here. Also, there are phoenixes in the zone that can be captured by a ranger as a special pet. Enjoy the rewards for completing factions!
7 commentsGate Bug on Isle of Weeping Stone
Open your front gate two seconds before Victory or Death on the Isle of Weeping Stone. If you timed it right, the gate will bug and stay closed forever. Instead of running out the front gate your NPCs will go out the back gate and into the other team’s base! With their help it should be easy to wipe out the other team and their guild lord. The timing on this exploit is tricky but once you know it you can win unwinnable games with it.
18 commentsReturn of Dual Smite
Guilds are having a lot of success with a dual smiting setup in GvG. Here’s the setup:
Hammer Warrior (Warrior/Elementalist)
Backbreaker, Crushing Blow, Irresistible Blow, Frenzy, Healing Signet, Rush, Shock, Resurrection Signet
16 Hammer Mastery, 10 Tactics, 9 Strength, 6 Air Magic
Axe Warrior (Warrior/Elementalist)
Eviscerate, Executioner’s Strike, Bull’s Strike, Frenzy, Healing Signet, Sprint, Shock, Resurrection Signet
16 Axe Mastery, 10 Tactics, 9 Strength, 6 Air Magic
2 Smiters (Monk)
Air of Enchantment, Reversal of Fortune, Guardian, Draw Conditions, Zealot’s Fire, Balthazar’s Aura, Smite Hex, Resurrection Signet
16 Smiting, 12 Protection, 7 Divine Favor
1 Domination Mesmer (Mesmer/Monk)
Energy Surge, Energy Burn, Shame, Mind Wrack, Shatter Enchantment, Drain Enchantment, Blackout, Resurrect
14 Domination, 10 Inspiration, 10 Fast Casting
1 Air Elementalist Runner (Elementalist/Monk)
Ether Prodigy, Lightning Orb, Lightning Strike, Blinding Flash, Windborne Speed, Gale, Heal Party, Resurrection Signet
16 Air Magic, 10 Energy Storage, 9 Healing Magic
1 Healer (Monk/Mesmer)
Word of Healing, Orison of Healing, Healing Touch, Mend Ailment, Infuse Health, Heal Party, Inspired Hex, Drain Enchantment
14 Healing, 10 Divine Favor, 9 Inspiration
1 Boon Prot (Monk/Mesmer)
Mantra of Recall, Reversal of Fortune, Mend Condition, Protective Spirit, Divine Boon, Signet of Devotion, Contemplation of Purity, Inspired Hex
Each smiter picks a warrior to spam his skills on. Play the build on Jade Isle for maximum effect, the map is cramped and they cannot run away from the smiting effectively.
No commentsGet Guild Mates into Elite Missions
If you have access to one of the elite missions you can get other people into the mission as well. From the elite mission lobby click the “visit guild hall” button on your guild tab. In the guild hall, invite whoever you want to bring to the elite mission into your party. Once the party is formed open the guild tab again and click “leave guild hall.” That will transport you and your entire party to the elite mission without controlling a city.
11 commentsRaisu Palace Mission
Raisu Palace is a nasty timed mission. The emperor’s health constantly ticks down, and after half an hour he dies and the mission is failed. There’s no time to stand about.
The mission is composed of seven rooms. At the beginning of the mission you get to choose two additional NPCs for your party. Each of the six NPCs will make one of the first six rooms much easier. Carefully choosing those NPCs will save a lot of time and make the mission much easier. Those NPCs will leave your party once they help you with a room, but will help you fight normally until you get there.
The first room has elementalist mobs that Argo will let you skip past. He only gets past the first two mobs, however. The hard part of this room is the stairs at the end, where you have to be careful with your aggro. I would suggest against taking Argo, he doesn’t help with the hardest part of the room and if the room goes bad you can restart the mission anyway.
The second room has lots of warrior and ranger mobs attacking you from the side chambers. They spawn continuously and waste a lot of time. Talon Silverwing will close those side chambers saving you that time. This is a good room to skip. It isn’t a hard room, but the time you save makes the later rooms a lot less stressful.
The third room has two bosses, a ranger at the beginning and an elementalist at the end. Nika will let you skip the ranger boss and his mob. That isn’t very good, because that mob is the easiest one in the room and recharges your special skills for free. Be careful with the elementalist boss, his silver armor will kill players instantly. Work around the room and clear out all the mobs before fighting him.
The fourth room is several bridges, with enemies that spawn on the sides to attack you from behind. Cynn lets you skip this room entirely. However, you can run through this room without fighting the mobs anyway. If you have trouble running through the room you can take Cynn but it shouldn’t be neccessary.
The fifth room is a huge chamber with lots of mobs. It is easily the longest and hardest room in the mission. However, Danika will close off the room and let you skip it entirely! If you must fight through the room be sure to pull and break up mobs. But you should take Danika. Not only does she let you skip the fifth room, but she makes running through the fourth room easier as well. After you run over the bridges, her cutscene triggers pulling everyone through the room.
The sixth room is a side passage with lots of acid traps. Mobs wander up and down the hallway. It’s actually an easy room. Just pick off the mobs as they wander into you. Panaku will turn off the acid traps for you, but they aren’t a big deal. After passing this room a cutscene triggers and you’re taken to the last room.
Right in front of the emperor is a mob with three bosses in it. That may sound hard, but your dragon abilities make it really easy. Since each boss killed will recharge your special ability, you’ll get to use it a lot during this fight, which should let you blow the mob away! After killing all 3 bosses a cutscene starts, and you’ve completed the hardest mission in Factions.
6 commentsPlay Alliance Battles For the Other Faction
If you want to participate in an alliance battle for the other side, have a friend in a guild allied with the other side make you a guest of his guild. Visit their guild hall, and use their NPCs to play for their alliance, not yours. It’s a useful trick for farming the other side’s rare material, or for finishing up the 10k faction quests.
